Waverly, VA (January 21, 2025) – A serious four-vehicle collision on Tuesday morning in Waverly left three individuals with significant injuries, according to authorities. The crash occurred shortly before 9 a.m. on Route 460, just east of Route 40, near the Waverly VDOT facility.
Initial findings from Virginia Station Police indicate that the crash began when a 2017 Honda Civic traveling east slowed down to make a left turn into the facility. The vehicle was struck from behind by a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The impact pushed the Honda Civic into the path of oncoming traffic, where it was hit by a 2017 Ford Fusion and a 2017 Peterbilt 579 tractor-trailer.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene. The driver of the Honda Civic, who sustained serious injuries, was airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for advanced medical care. The drivers of the Toyota Corolla and Ford Fusion also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Southside Medical Center in Petersburg. Meanwhile, the driver of the tractor-trailer was evaluated at the scene and did not require additional treatment. Authorities reported that all vehicles involved had only one occupant.
Police have not disclosed further details as their investigation remains ongoing.
We hope all those injured in this accident recover fully and quickly.
Car Accidents in Virginia
Virginia sees thousands of multi-vehicle crashes every year, many of which result in severe injuries. Statistics show that intersections and left-turn situations are particularly prone to such accidents. These collisions often involve a mix of rear-end crashes, side impacts, and head-on impacts, leading to serious harm for those involved.
Accidents like these highlight several important considerations:
- Rear-End Collisions: These are one of the most common types of crashes. Following too closely or failing to notice slowing traffic can easily lead to a rear-end impact.
- Impact of Tractor-Trailers: Due to their size and weight, collisions involving tractor-trailers can result in devastating damage and severe injuries to passenger vehicles.
- Air Medical Transport: In severe cases, injured parties may require airlifts to trauma centers for quicker access to specialized care.
- Medical Bills and Recovery: Victims often face extended recovery periods and mounting medical costs, emphasizing the importance of seeking proper compensation.
