Sperryville, VA (March 7, 2024) – A deadly crash on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a Sperryville man in Rappahannock County.

Virginia State Police responded to the crash at 12:55 p.m. on March 4 along Route 522, also known as Zachary Taylor Highway, approximately half a mile south of Route 662. According to authorities, 79-year-old Gerald L. Ochs was driving southbound when his vehicle veered across the center line and collided head-on with a Ford F-150 heading north. Tragically, Ochs was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Ford F-150, identified as a 61-year-old man from Inwood, West Virginia, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Emergency responders transported him to Valley Health Winchester Medical Center for treatment. His name has not been released. Officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
