Dumfries, VA (February 17, 2025) – A collision late Sunday, February 15, near Dumfries Road and Van Buren Road left one teenager dead and three others injured.
Authorities report that 18-year-old Mihai-Mario Stoica, of Woodbridge, was behind the wheel of a 2013 Audi A7 traveling eastbound when the vehicle veered across the median into oncoming traffic. The car collided with a 2024 Cadillac Escalade heading in the opposite direction.
Investigators suspect that speed may have been a factor in the crash. Stoica was pronounced dead at the scene. Three additional people sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for further treatment. A 25-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Audi, was injured in the crash. The 18-year-old driver of the Cadillac, along with a 32-year-old passenger in the vehicle, also suffered injuries. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Mihai-Mario Stoica and also wish those injured a speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in Virginia
Car accidents are a serious concern across Virginia, with thousands of crashes reported each year. In 2023, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles recorded over 118,000 traffic crashes, leading to more than 59,000 injuries and 1,000 fatalities. Excessive speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving are among the most common causes of serious collisions in the state.
Unfortunately, accidents like this serve as a sobering reminder of how dangerous the roads can be. Below are some of the common types of injuries people sustain in car accidents:
- Head and Brain Injuries – Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), concussions, and skull fractures are common in high-impact crashes, often leading to long-term cognitive issues and requiring extensive medical care.
- Spinal Cord Injuries – Damage to the spine can result in paralysis, nerve damage, or chronic pain, significantly affecting a victim’s quality of life.
- Broken Bones – The force of a crash can cause fractures in the arms, legs, ribs, or other bones, sometimes necessitating surgery and months of rehabilitation.
- Internal Injuries – Blunt force trauma can lead to damage to organs, internal bleeding, and other life-threatening conditions that require immediate medical attention.
- Whiplash and Soft Tissue Damage – Neck and back injuries, such as whiplash, can result in chronic pain and limited mobility, even if they seem minor at first.
Understanding the potential injuries caused by car accidents highlights the importance of seeking medical attention immediately after a crash.
