Virginia Beach, VA (April 16, 2025) – What began as a calm Sunday afternoon turned tense when multiple vehicles collided, sending one person to the hospital.
Around 1:10 p.m. on April 13, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 5300 block of Indian River Rd. in response to a report of a crash involving multiple vehicles. The Virginia Beach Fire Department, Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services, Virginia Beach Rescue, and Virginia Beach Police Department all responded. When they arrived, they found three vehicles involved in the wreck—one of which had tipped onto its side. Thankfully, although initial reports mentioned a possible entrapment, no one was trapped in the vehicles. Paramedics treated one individual at the scene before taking them to a local hospital for further evaluation. The Virginia Beach Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and has not yet released additional details.
We hope the person hurt in this accident recovers quickly.
Car Accidents in Virginia
Car crashes are a daily occurrence across Virginia, with thousands happening every month. In 2023, there were more than 122,000 traffic collisions in the state, leading to nearly 60,000 reported injuries. Many of these accidents occur in urban areas like Virginia Beach, where dense traffic and frequent intersections increase the risk of collisions.
Understanding how accidents affect victims helps explain why many seek legal support during recovery. Here are some common types of injuries often seen after vehicle crashes:
- Whiplash and Neck Strain: Sudden deceleration during a collision often causes violent jerking of the neck. This can lead to muscle strain, ligament injuries, and chronic pain. Whiplash symptoms may not appear immediately, making medical evaluation crucial even after seemingly minor accidents.
- Back and Spinal Cord Injuries: The force from a crash can cause spinal discs to herniate or even damage the spinal cord itself. These injuries can result in long-term pain or even permanent disability. Recovery is often slow and requires physical therapy or surgery.
- Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): When a person’s head strikes a hard surface inside the vehicle, concussions or more severe brain trauma can occur. TBIs can have lasting effects on memory, mood, and cognitive ability, even after a single impact.
- Fractures and Broken Bones: Arms, ribs, and legs are especially vulnerable in car crashes. While some fractures heal with rest, others may need surgical intervention. Complicated breaks can keep people out of work for weeks or even months.
